For over 500 years, the healing properties of herbs have been documented in manuscripts known as medieval herbals, of which the 11th century Ashmole 1431 is a shining example of their beauty, wisdom and power.
The Enchanted Spell Oracle – a set of 36 botanical cards and this accompanying book – returns to medieval and Celtic herbal lore, and takes us back to the magickal days when herbs and plants were used to cure everything from physical to psychic ailments. The oracle can help you return to this knowledge and wisdom from the ages by crafting enchantments kitchen-witch style, using commonplace kitchen ingredients.
A kitchen witch brings light and magick to all she does, mindfully, patiently and carefully. She focusses on seeing the ordinary as well as the sublime, and honours the divine by taking care of hearth and home. She does not need high ritual, fancy altar items or unusual ingredients, instead spellcasting and cooking with herbs, and observing the turn of the seasons through the solstices and equinoxes.

I've been creating and casting spells since I was ten years old. The Enchanted Spell Oracle is a culmination of 20 years of spellwork. This photo is of me at the Ring of Brodgar in the Orkney Isles, Scotland in 1995, where I sat on ancient stones and cast a spell for protection.

Protection Spell
Enchantment: Witch bottle spell
The following enchantment is a very effective protective spell designed to ward off negativity and protect your living space, and has been adapted from Witta by Edain McCoy.
Take a glass jar and fill it with sand (to absorb negativity), three strands of your hair (to bind any ill intent), and as many bay leaves as will fit (to dissolve and deflect any negative energy directed towards you).
As you fill the jar say, ‘Protected now, above and below, around my space, white light glows.’ Visualise your house, yourself and your family surrounded by a giant white bubble of light. Know that you have cleansed your home and filled it with protective energy.
Secure the lid tightly onto the jar and bury the witch bottle outside your front door.
